This week in Grade 8 :

We are on the next unit Crash. Students are learning about concepts of acceleration and force, and designing an experiment to 1) show how safety gears are important in a car crash or 2) the different forces acting on a plane/object and how designs of a plan can help reduce friction.

We have carried out our experiment and is working to complete the report and the multimedia.

The plant growth experiment is concluded and there were a brief introduction to the next unit. The main focus of the week is for students to improve on their report using formative feedbacks, sample reports and rubrics.

What's exciting this week is the introduction to the new and improved MYP science rubrics. You can support the new rubrics by going through it with your child. By going through, I mean helping your child use the rubrics' checklist or setting a target together.

Some amazing data have been collected from the experiment and should enable them to have a good data processing.

Students are observing and recording data from the experiment that they have set up earlier.

Students were preparing the stage for their experiment ' the effect of fertilizer on plant growth'. The science skills being practiced here are: preparing solutions, dilution, recording and organizing. Maggie and Nina think that coffee would accelerate plant growth. Yuhro and Ryan are investigating if adding nutrients like potassium or nitrogen might help plant grow better.
